Good practices at the counter

The plaque is a service offered to your customer, never a condition. These five rules protect your Google listing and your business.

  1. Present the plaque as a service: “if you'd like to leave a review, it's here in 30 seconds” — never insist.
  2. No consideration, ever: no discount, no free coffee, no contest — that is the line of the Consumer Code and of Google's rules.
  3. Do not ask for a rating: stars are chosen on Google, alone with one's phone.
  4. Leave the customer alone with their phone: no writing over their shoulder.
  5. Remind them the review is an assisted draft that the customer edits and posts themselves.

These practices accompany the “plaque at the counter” format; they do not replace reading Google's rules on reviews.
